On 2 December, British Japanese author and actor Hanako Footman will discuss the aesthetics and politics of narrating and translating queer diasporas. Moderated by Dr. Bettina Burger and Dr. Hannah Pardey, the event will feature a conversation about Footman’s creative process, readings from her debut novel Mongrel (2024) and a discussion with the audience. The event will be conducted in English.
Hanako Footman is a British-Japanese actor, author, and director. A LAMDA graduate, her screen and stage credits include The Crown, Mad House, and Crime 101. Her debut novel Mongrel earned major award nominations, and she recently completed her directorial debut, Emiko Jones. Her second novel will publish with Doubleday in 2028.
